Karmen Ransomware Data Recovery

Karmen Ransomware is a virus that uses strong encryption algorithms to encrypt files on the infected computer. Karmen adds the “.krm” extension to the encrypted files and demands a ransom from the victim in exchange for the decryption key.

History

This ransomware was first spotted in the wild in August 2016. Karmen is a variant of the Crysis ransomware family. Karmen Ransomware uses the same encryption algorithms as other variants of this family, such as Locky, CryptXXX, and TeslaCrypt.

How does Karmen Ransomware infect a computer?

Attackers usually spread Karmen ransomware through spam emails that contain malicious attachments or links. The email may look like it’s from a legitimate sender, such as UPS or FedEx, and says that there is a package waiting for you. When you open the attachment or click on the link, Karmen will be downloaded and installed on your computer. Then Karmen will scan your computer for files to encrypt. It will encrypt files with the following extensions: .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx, .pst, .ost, .msg, .eml, .pdf, .dwg, and .rar.

What does Karmen Ransomware do?

Once Karmen has encrypted your files, it will display a ransom note that contains instructions on how to pay the ransom and decrypt your files. Karmen ransomware demands a ransom of 1 Bitcoin, but the ransom amount may vary depending on the variant of this ransomware. Also, it will delete backups and shadow copies from your computer so that you cannot restore your files without paying the ransom. It threatens to delete your files if you do not pay the ransom within 7 days.

Prevention

The best way to prevent Karmen Ransomware is to install a reliable anti-malware program and keep it up-to-date. You should avoid opening email attachments from unknown senders. Also, you should beware of fake websites that claim to be legitimate but are used to distribute malware. Always check the URL of a website before you enter any information on it.

What should you do?

If Karmen ransomware has infected your computer, you should not pay the ransom. Karmen Ransomware is very dangerous and there is no guarantee that you will get your files back even if you pay the ransom.

Instead, you should use a reliable anti-malware program to remove Karmen Ransomware from your computer. Karmen Ransomware is very dangerous and should be removed as soon as possible. You can use the free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program to scan and clean your computer. Then try to restore your files from a backup.

If you don’t have a backup, you can try using file recovery software to recover Karmen encrypted files. We recommend trying SalvageData data recovery software to recover your files under any circumstances.
